Mud Room

My wife asked if I could spruce up the mudroom for her. I drew up some rough plans and started building. All that was in this space was a wire shelf and some pink colored paint.
I started by building the framework for the bench against the back wall.
I wanted to make the benchtop against the left hand wall lift up to provide storage underneath, so I built a small cabinet to support the benchtop on this side.
I used laminated pine board for the benchtop. After dry fitting everything I used a dark stain and oil based poly on the benchtop.
After the benchtop was done, my dad came down to help build the cabinets. We assembled the cabinets in the basement and carried them up to set them in place.

After the cabinets were built, we realized they would not fit out of the bulkhead or up the stairs. We ended up taking part of the wall down that surrounds the stairs in the basement to fit the cabinet up.

The cabinet itself was made from 3/4' MDF with a beadboard back. The faceframe of the cabinet is made from pine.
After the cabinets were installed, all we had left to do was put some crown molding up, cover the bench cabinet with beadboard, and start painting. We chose a pastel green color for the cabinets and a lighter shade of green for the walls.
More pictures to come once we paint the walls, put hooks in the cubbies, build some raised panel cabinet doors for the top shelves, and put some tile down on the floor.
